      Telehealth

We offer telehealth consultations to all patients. Telehealth service is not only suitable for our rural and interstate patients, but is now proving an excellent option for local patients who are unable to or prefer not to attend in person.

This may be particularly important for unwell patients, the immunocompromised, and postnatal mothers recovering from childbirth who have newborns at home.

      What is Telehealth

A Telehealth consultation is a “virtual” health care consultation delivered remotely using your own device. You can speak with your physiotherapist using either a computer, smart phone or tablet for a video consultation from the comfort of your own home.

In a Telehealth consultation, your physiotherapist will take a thorough history, explain your likely diagnosis, then go through a detailed treatment program. Much of what we do involves education and hence a large portion of our treatments can be delivered over Telehealth.

Who can benefit from a Telehealth consultation?

Problems that can be managed effectively with Telehealth include:

      • Bladder Or Bowel Incontinence
      • Bladder Urgency Or Frequency
      • Prolapse
      • Pelvic Pain
      • Sexual Pain
      • Constipation
      • Back Or Pelvic Pain During Or After Pregnancy
      • Abdominal Muscle Separation (Dram) During Or After Pregnancy
      • Mastitis (inflammatory conditions of the lactating breast), milk blisters/nipple blebs. A lot of individualised education can be provided around how to manage these independently at home.

Research has shown that Telehealth consultations are successful in pelvic health. A review published in 2020 by Kyannie Risame Ueda da Mata demonstrated that Telehealth promoted significant improvements in urinary symptoms, pelvic floor function, and quality of life. Are rebates available for Telehealth?

Medicare (with a GP Chronic Disease Management Plan/ Enhanced Primary Care Plan) and most private health insurers are providing rebates for physiotherapy Telehealth during COVID-19. Please contact your private health insurer to see if you are covered for physiotherapy Telehealth.

If you are unsure if Telehealth is right for you, please feel free to contact our clinic and one of our receptionists and/or physiotherapists will happily discuss this with you.
